Now that Steve Bullock has clearly said he will not run for Senate in Montana, hopefully more people will realize Democrats already have a superb candidate running for Senate in Montana and if he can get his fundraising up he might win. If you haven’t been following, you should check out Wilmot Collins, the black Mayor of Helena and former refugee from Liberia.

Mayor Collins has a phenomenal story to tell as the current mayor of Montana’s capital, who came to Montana with his wife as a refugees from Liberia and has been serving the US and people of Montana in different capacities ever since out of a passionate commitment to give back to the community that welcomed his family in.

Some people may say he hasn’t raised enough money to be competitive yet and that is true, but he has raised more than any other Democratic candidate and he is an impressive candidate, who is actually running, so those who might complain from their arm chairs should first do something to help rather than complain. A need for better fundraising is much easier to fix than a bad candidate or no candidate.

Democrats have been very successful in recent years in getting elected statewide in Montana, including Governor Bullock, former Governor Schweitzer, Senator Tester, and until 2016 many of the state-level elected officials. In 2018 the Democratic candidate for US House of Representatives from Montana only lost by 4% and Montana should be a prime target for Democrats to pick up a Senate seat against first term Senator Steve Daines.
